Starting Janel With Simple Math and Reading
The principal in Janel's school gave us a tip on how we can teach our child simple addition at home before going to school. Instead of using fingers to count or add, she told me to buy Popsicle sticks for adding. I bought it early this morning before going home from work. Before I left for home tonight my husband started teaching her simple addition and she was able to catch up easily and it looked like she had some fun. After doing Popsicles, she picked up her laptop and also did the simple addition there.
As for her reading, she's slowly improving with the help of Kumon. The program gets a little complicated but I help her out understand by explaining to her every word that seems unfamiliar to her. I try hard not to spoon feed her. The program doesn't exactly include writing skills so in a separate sheet I ask her to write down three-letter words that are familiar to her. Hopefully, as soon as she goes back to school she will be able to apply everything she has learned.
